Love them or hate them computers are now a fact of everyday life in a modern western society. Once a home or business invests in their first computer system it is inevitable that more will follow, be they additional systems or upgraded replacements.

They are now without doubt an essential tool for most people. When understood the benefits that they can bring in terms of email or video communication; reporting; research; information gathering about forthcoming events is invaluable to many and the time saved in producing these tasks is also very significant.

Personal computers are also great tools for saving enormous amounts of time when completing repetitive tasks. This can be achieved by the use of a template which can then be used as the basis of numerous other documents or files.

Prevention is Better than Cure

This is a very common old saying and with regards to computers it is doubly true. If you are running a computer and it connects to the internet or if you're children are loading files and programs that they are taking to school or college it is always recommended that your computer is protected with Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware and even some parental control program to protect your personal data and prevent access to undesirable content.

When things go Wrong

Because of the reliance of computers in the 21st century it becomes very frustrating when they go wrong. Things might take longer to accomplish or the computer system might keep unexpectedly closing down or restarting in the middle of a task or just seeming to be running slower than it used to.

Symptoms

My computer is running very slowly and programs are taking much longer to start than they used.
This is generally caused by one of the following

  1. Too many programs being left open which are not needed.
    Solution - Close unneeded programs
  2. Too many tasks being left open which are not needed.
    Solution - Close unneeded tasks
  3. Insufficient memory in the computer
    Solution - Upgrade the memory of the computer by adding more RAM
  4. A build up of old file references in the windows registry, caused by earlier software which might no longer be required or have been previously removed but might still be referenced by the registry
    Solution -
    Install a Windows Registry Cleaner software program such as Registry Easy Download a trial version here!

My computer is behaving very erratically and restarting in the middle of a task or program.
This is generally caused by one of the following

  1. There may be a problem with the program if the problem only occurs with that particular program.
    Solution - Reinstall the program
  2. There may be a problem with a driver on the computer system if the problem only occurs when a particular piece of equipment attached to the computer is used.
    Solution - Reinstall the program for the equipment or check for an updated driver for the equipment.
  3. The computer might be infected by a virus or some other malware

My computer is loading Internet programs and windows that I have not requested. 
This is generally caused by one of the following
