Swimming
Is there really
anything better in life than cooling off on a hot
day by going swimming? Whether you choose to
swim in a pool, watering hole or ocean, there are
very few things in life that are that refreshing
when you just can’t take the heat any longer. Most
people are recreational swimmers and if you’re like
myself, I consider bobbing around in the shallow end
swimming. As long as I’m in a nice cool pool and I
have sunshine on my face, I’m swimming.
Other people are into the workout aspect of
swimming. Whether they swim 5 miles every day at
the gym or do a few laps in their pool before work,
these swimmers are dedicated and usually have had a
few lessons. People who swim for sport, have a
series of different strokes that they may use, or
they have a favorite, like the freestyle, that they
use everyday.
No matter how you look at it, people like to swim.
There are parks dedicated to being in the water and
the swimming competitions are a favorite for
viewers all over the world during the Olympics. Most
schools have swim teams and most parents put their
children in swimming lessons early in life. Some
even take their newborns to the classes, just to get
a head start.
But like I said, my favorite kind of swimming is the
one done on hot days where the only relief to the
heat is to take a dip. The kind of swimming that we
did as kids at pool parties or at the beach on the
weekends. Some people are afraid of the water, and
that is usually correlated with the lack of swimming
lessons at an early age. But for those of us who
can’t wait to jump in and cross off the days on our
calendars until the warm weather comes and the pools
open up, there is nothing better than going
swimming.
